Hua Mei Acupunture and TCM Centre - Service Standards

HUA MEI Acupuncture and TCM Centre is truly a special place for its regular patients.

The attentive care, the calming and inviting atmosphere, and the warm smiles that greet them at every visit make them feel they are more in the company of friends than at a clinic.

They feel secure in the hands of professionally qualified acupunturists and clinical staff with nursing background.

They marvel at the fine acupuncture skills of Dr Gu Fa Long, the clinic’s Assistant Director of TCM, and are impressed by his wealth of knowledge about western and TCM treatments of chronic pain and illnesses.

Dr Gu who has lectured and researched on acupuncture, is a former Associate Professor at the Shanghai University Hospital of TCM. He is also a qualified Chinese physician with a Master in Medicine in acupuncture

High on care and standards

The truly caring spirit of ‘healing’ at HMAC has impressed even those who had been put off by bad experiences with doctors in the past. Ms Chee Wai Ping, one of the clinic’s many satisfied patients, relates her positive experience at HMAC:

“Dr Gu is truly a fantastic and humble doctor of the body, mind and soul. His healing touches not only the physical wounds and pain, but by example of his ‘just doing’, he has single-mindedly changed my mind about uncaring doctors and physicians.”

She continued: “His great sense of being is that he just wants to help one and all – from his heart ….and his strong ethos and morality are commendable.”

Another difference that makes HMAC truly special is its moxabustion method of acupuncture treatment. Although moxabustion is more time-consuming and laborious, the clinic prefers this method because it is more effective in facilitating the movement of qi and blood through the meridiens.

The clinic also adheres to strict guidelines on treatment standards and hygiene by:

• working within the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health in Singapore, and treating only those conditions that have been approved by the World Health Organisation.

• collaborating with western-trained physicians, and providing them with feedback on the patient’s progress.

• paying particular attention to highly hygienic treatment procedures.

The clinic uses pre-sterilised disposable needles, and all needles are discarded into a medical hazard container after single use. For personal hygiene, fresh sheets of paper towls are placed on the treatment bed.

Enjoy the security of professional care

Many patients who have sought acupuncture and TCM treatment at Hua Mei Acupuncture and TCM Centre have found effective solutions to their pain, including those who have not responded to other treatments earlier. Managed by a former nursing officer and a team of able acupuncturist-TCM physicians and clinical staff, patients can be assured of the highest quality attentive care.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments needed differs from person to person. One course of treatment is equivalent to ten sessions of acupuncture. On the average, patients sign up for one course of treatment; followed by ‘health maintenance’ sessions once weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on the patient’s condition.

For complex or long-standing conditions, one or two treatments a week for several months is recommended.

What is so unique about moxabustion?

Moxabustion is a traditional method of acupuncture where moxa, a dried herb – usually mugwort - is wrapped around the top end of the acupuncture needle and burnt just above the skin. The warm penetrating heat created by the burning moxa facilitates the movement of qi and blood through the meridians; thus, unblocking obstructed meridians resulting in pain relief for patients.
