About Hua Mei Training Academy (HMTA) – A Tsao Foundation Initiative
Tsao Foundation set up Hua Mei Training Academy (HMTA) in 1995 with a goal to promote successful ageing, provide education and skills development in elder care, and foster inter-generational understanding and relationships.
HMTA pursues its goal through its continuous effort to develop and provide a range of workshops and certification programmes that focuses on the professional and personal development aspects of ageing and aged-care issues, health and wellness-promotion, dementia care as well as financial literacy.
Our trainers are qualified and experienced health educators with backgrounds in nursing and social work or psychology.
Professional Development
HMTA as the Continuing Education and Training (CET)
HMTA was appointed by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) in 2008 to be the Continuing Education and Training (CET) Centre for the Community and Social Service (Senior Services) Sub Sector. Our CET Centre aims to raise the standard and competency of the sector through a structured competency-based training roadmap. We offer a diversified range of academic programmes from higher certificate to professional diploma levels to equip and empower Health Care Attendants, Health Care Assistants, Home Care Helpers, Programme Executives, Programme Co-ordinators, Executives, Administrators & Managers for the eldercare sector.
As a key CET Centre, HMTA strives to:
- upgrade and enhance the capabilities of the Healthcare Practitioners and management staff in the relevant industry;
- match trained and nationally-certified practitioners to meet manpower needs for the industry
Partnering with National Council of Social Service (NCSS)
HMTA is appointed by the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) as the Centre of Specialisation to spearhead development in the area of Befriending Older People. Our comprehensive training manual on Train-The-Trainer programme on Befriending Older People aims to impart knowledge, skills and leading practices with the eldercare sector to impact and enhance the sector’s standards of services.
Partnering with Social Service Training Institute (SSTI)
HMTA is the strategic training partner for the Social Service Training Institute (SSTI), providing courses on ageing and helping professionals in the aged-care sector upgrade their knowledge and skills. Some of the courses include:
- - Introduction to Dementia Care
- - Approaches to Dementia Care
- - Working with elderly for frontline workers
- - Essentials of Gerontology
Other professional courses include care-giving training for informal care-givers, befriending skills for volunteers, also ageing sensitisation training for anyone dealing with seniors.
Personal Development
HMTA offers a wide range of courses specially designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to improve total well being and work towards successful ageing.
We are the strategic training partner for the Civil Service College (CSC) and train an annual average of over 500 civil servants in the following courses:
- - Health Management – A Personalised Approach for Officers in Mid 40s and above
- - Positive Bodies & Minds in Midlife and for Women only
We also offer pre-retirement training programme to corporations, focusing on Physical Health, Mental Health and Financial Health to prepare individuals for successful ageing.
In addition, HMTA conducts community-based programmes for seniors to encourage them to stay active.
HMTA Team
HMTA comprises a team of passionate multi-disciplinary practitioners and professionals. The HMTA team spares no effort to ensure that the Academy’s training curriculum is always updated and that our approaches to training focus on skills acquisition and experiential sharing with practical and real life examples to optimise learning.
