Our Training Portfolios

Eldercare Portfolio
Caring for an older person needs more than love. It requires specialised skills and knowledge. Family members caring for an older person at home, or professionals caring for an older person in the hospital, nursing home, day care centre or agency, volunteers, or the general public including older people, will benefit from our eldercare training courses.
Some topics under our eldercare portfolio
- Normal Ageing and its implications
- Common Myths of Ageing
- Physical and Emotional demands of caring for a senior client or family member
- Community Resources for older persons and their caregivers
- Train-the-Trainer eldercare training programme
Dementia Care Portfolio
Understanding the condition, early signs and symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and how to manage the difficult behaviours are crucial to giving good care.
Our dementia care training teaches professionals and family caregivers specialised skills and knowledge on how to give better care to the person with dementia; how to care for themselves so they can continue to give good care to the person with dementia; and how to teach others the specialised skills of caring for the person with dementia (train-the-trainer programme).
Health Promotion Portfolio
Anyone interested in learning more about their health and the skills to improve it, should attend programmes under our health promotion portfolio. Our learning modules cover topics on pre-retirement planning, health management and stress management.
Psycho-emotional Portfolio
Our psycho-emotional portfolio looks at coping strategies to deal with the emotional side of caring for an older client or family member. It stresses on the importance of communicating with an older person, barriers to communication and effective communication skills. Bridging the generation gap, grief and loss, and death and dying, are other topics covered under our psycho-emotional portfolio.

Training Approaches
Our training programmes adopt an innovative approach to nurturing community-centred eldercare efforts in maximising human resources and expertise in geriatric care.
Modular training format
Our programmes are modular in format, and we design each talk, workshop and training session to meet each client’s particular needs.
Psycho-emotional, an important part of training
Knowledge and skills are not in themselves sufficient to result in effective change.
Our training therefore includes psycho-emotional components such as understanding of self, understanding stress and interpersonal communication.
Participants will learn why good communication between caregivers and older persons is important. They will learn about caregiver stress, and how it affects the quality of care. They will find out how their own coping and communication styles affect the way they manage stress. Our training also teaches participants about motivating older people to participate in self care and social activities.
‘Improving Care for Older Clients’ is one of our many programmes which includes training on the psycho-emotional dimensions on ageing and aged care. The programme is developed specifically for training of caregivers working in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. It aims not only to improve the knowledge and skills of professionals and non-professionals working in direct care and non-direct care, but also affect a mindset change about effective eldercare.
